No Credit at All?
If you don’t have credit it can often be difficult to obtain credit lines. Here are a couple of ideas for establishing good credit.
Consider... preapproved credit offers. Using a pre-approved card is one of the easiest ways to begin to develop credit history. Just remember, always read the fine print.
Obtain... credit through your current bank. If you have maintained a checking or savings account in good standing for at least one year, it's a good idea to apply through them for a credit card. They value your business and are often willing to work a little harder to get you approved.
| | balance (what you owe) and your high credit (limit). It is better to owe $4,000 on a credit card with a $15,000 limit than it is to owe $400 on a card with a $500 limit. One quick solution to this problem is to call your creditors and see if they will simply raise your limits.
Avoid having unused credit...There is no need to maintain unneeded credit lines you do not need. If you have a sufficient number, trim the excess out.
Form a workable budget...Be mindful of what you have coming in and out each month. This will help you plan for the future and allow you to start paying down your debts, especially those credit cards with high interest rates.
Request your credit report twice a year...The bureaus are required by law to provide you with a free report every six months (in most states). Verify that everything contained within is correct. If something is reporting incorrectly dispute the item with the bureau and your creditor. If good credit items are not reporting be sure to have them added as this will also help you establish good credit.
Remove negative items...Negative entries on your credit report are detrimental to your credit score. These items can remain on your report for seven years or more. However, you can always hire a professional to credit repair service to remove items for you. To learn more about how Doctor Credit Repair can help click on the The Process tab above.
